Jay R. Schochet and Richard J. Henken of Schochet Associates, Inc. received the prestigious "Friend of the Elderly" award on Feb. 24 during the 51st annual Retirement Housing Foundation Celebration and Awards Dinner held at the Sheraton Hotel in Cerritos, Calif.
Schochet, who founded the corporation Schochet Associates in 1973, formed his partnership with RHF in 1983 when plans for the syndication of Angelus Plaza were being implemented. During their partnership Schochet Associates and RHF have collaborated to acquire and preserve as affordable nearly 2,300 apartments in Massachusetts and Connecticut, with another 150 scheduled to close in the spring.
Henken officially joined the firm in 1997 as Executive Vice President, and in 2004 he became President of Schochet Associates and Federal Management Co., Inc. Under his direction Henken's team has closed on transactions exceeding more than $400 million, highlighted by the acquisition and preservation as affordable of more than 2,500 apartments in 15 developments.
The "Friend of the Elderly" award - which began in 1982 - is given to an individual or organization making a substantial and/or unique contribution to the health, housing, social, psychological, and spiritual quality of life for older adults.
