Washington House, located in Taunton, MA, known as “The Silver City,” due to its rich history of silversmithing, was originally a small neighborhood school built in 1897, also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The site sat abandoned for approximately ten years before being purchased by Weld Management Co., Inc. with the intent of creating elderly housing. Weld worked in conjunction with the city and state to create a financing package that would qualify the property for historic syndication. After extensive restoration and adaptation of the interior to house 14 one bedroom, Section 8 apartments, the elderly designated community is active and welcoming.
